Could you help me stop him barking ?
 

Hi, I have a question about my dog. She is 2 years old now[poodle].
The problem is when she saw any strangers, she will bark loudly and acting
like she's gonna bite him/her although in fact she wouldn't do it and that's
make my relative frighten and scared to touch her besides she won't stop
until he/she gone for about 2 minutes. Moreover her loudly noise make my neighbor so annoying :wall:. Now I don't know what to do with her.
Could anyone tell me how to make her stop barking and acting like she gonna bite someone ?

I used this forum for the same purpose, and found some good ideas.

I put coins into an empty pop can, and would shake it every time he barked, he would become silent for awhile but then found it to be a game.

I tried everything under the sun, researched everything I could, but Ben would still bark.

Eventually, I did purchased a barking collar - the one that sprays a fine mist of citronella into his face when he barked.

After about a week, he stopped barking and now only barks when someone approaches the house.

It was a bit pricey, but was worth absolutely every penny.

One thing i heard and i can't remember from whom, but it's very Dog Whisperer-esque. Is that some of the reasons dogs bark are because they don't feel confident in their "leader's" capabilities or they are bored.

I've found that in the past to help my dog stop barking inside the house, I go to the window with her, give her a command and then lead her away. This is supposed to show that you see what they are telling you about and that it's not a big deal.

I guess when dogs don't feel confident in your leadership they attempt the job themselves, but are very rarely ccapable of doing so properly. It manifests in crazy unacceptable behaviour like barking for hours on end at a plastic bag blowing in the wind, or someone walking down THIER sidewalk.

The huge issue to remember is that certain traits/behaviours are breed specific. I believe that there are steps you can take to counteract some of the barking. Many people have success. I work with my Standard Schnauzer with respect to her territorial dog watch barking. I know exactly what sets her off so I attempt to alter the events. For example. I know when company comes to the door she will bark like crazy. Now I watch for people to arrive, put her outside before she notices their car in the driveway. I get to the front door before the doorbell is activated. She associates the doorbell with strangers in her territory. I let the guests settle and then let her in. She runs to greet them without the barking stuff. This works for her because I remove "protecting the front door" from her. She takes her job very seriously. My friends have commented on the fact she is a different dog when they arrive.
