Excessive meowing on water!
 

My 12 years old Siamese cat has just recently developed a new habit out of the blue. She started meowing at the water ball before drinking the water. Her new meows are very loud. She had never meowed like this before in her entire life, I didn't even know she can be that loud. She drinks a lot and very frequently. This habit since developed into excessive meowing during the night.

1. The vet ran a couple urine test and blood tests and found nothing unusual. She had no clue why my cat would act like that out of the blue.

2. Her night meowing doesn't seem to be an attention seeking. Prior to this habit she used to sleep in the bedroom. Now, she will snick upstairs for her meowing ritual and if we calling her and bringing her back to the bedroom, she seem to just wait until we fall asleep and then she run upstairs again. If we go near her up stairs she will stop and act like nothing happen and the minute we left she will go about her business. It looks like she is going through a spiritual moment talking to something we can't see. Very weird.

3. It is of course a problem since it's loud and we can sleep. As for suggestion of tiring her during the day it is not that doable due to her arthritis. She doesn't run and jump as she used to anymore.

I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas for what could cause that, and how to stop it.

I'm guessing that this is a typo and you meant water bowl - if not, I'm confused.

But if this were my cat and it started meowing at the water bowl I might try to change that water bowl for one made out of another material. (Ceramic and glass is best - avoid plastic) - Sometimes cats meow at the strangest things.

That's all I got on this one - anyone else?

My 17 yr old siamese cat meowed very loud in it's senior yrs too. They are vocal to begin with.

Did the vet test the T4 Thyroxine Thyroid hormone level in the blood tests? Depending on the lab used sometimes this is an add-on to the general blood panel, sometimes it's included in the Senior/geriatric/complete blood panel

Excessively loud meowing especially at night in all cats, not just the normally very vocal Siamese, can be a symptom of Hyperthyroidism.

Excessive and frequent water drinking & the resulting increased urine output can be a symptom of kidney issues.

If there is concurrent Hyperthyroidism and kidney issues the blood test may not reveal the kidney issues until the Thyroid level is under control.

If your vet has not already tested the T4 Thyroxine hormone level, I would suggest asking for that test to be done.

If it was done already & the result is in normal range but on the high side I would ask for a Free T4 test to be more accurate.

If it was tested already & is high out of normal range then your cat has HyperThyroidism & treatment options should be discussed with a vet.
