Best value in puppy food?
 

What are your thoughts on the best puppy food for the price? I'm looking to switch foods soon and am looking for something with great ingredients, easy to digest and reasonably priced.

I already switched from Nutram to Purina One with great results. My puppy smells less and his stool is firmer but I want to switch again to something better. Suggestions?

We have had Gomez on the Burns Mini Bites (kibble) with great success...

To the Burns we used to add boiled chicken and brown rice, but we have now switched over to adding in Nature Diet wet food also with great success, very healthy, non-smelly, great coat and his bowl is gone within 30 seconds!

Just make sure it is HUMAN grade food. Everything else is not worth the time, money and your dog's health!

How about Nutro....the natural kind? Would that be human grade?

I have heard that a person should switch foods often. Any truth in that? Would it be better to make my puppy's food myself?

I would call Nutro Natural choice an ok food. I used to feed Layla it, but now feed her Wellness, and the differences are drastic. Her shedding, itching, smell, pooping, etc have all decreased dramatically since switching her. Nutro is better than the "grocery store varieties" but Wellness, SG and Merrick are on a completely different level.

Once your dog is on a high quality food that he likes, you shouldn't switch foods, it will just cause digestive problems. If you are willing to put the time and research into homemade food, then it's deffinately an option (I've never heard anyone who makes their own dog food complain that their dog reacts poorly to it)

puppy4ever, keep in mind that while these foods are great, they aren't "human grade". If you want that, you'll have to feed them yourself. ;)

To find these foods, you have to go to food stores. Pet stores don't usually have much selection in foods, and the highest quality food in most of the pet stores I have been to was ProPlan or Eukanuba, which are FAR FAR FAR from the best out there. :)

Good luck finding a food. It takes a while to figure it out. Sometimes you can find a food that you think is great, but either the dog won't touch it or won't digest it. :rolleyes:

Here in the UK, we can get both foods at pet stores or online and according to some websites, you can order Nature Diet and Burns online in Canada and the US...
