Food recommendation for dog with problem ears?

Hey all.

I've got a pug with problem ears. We clean them every day and there seems to be no improvement in sight. I'm certain its allergies but I'm not sure if its food or environmental.

He is currently eating Orijen Adult and showed only a little improvement compared to the vet brand he was on before.

Am wondering if anyone has had success with a certain brand like Orijen, Evo.

I'm tempted to try the new 6 fish Orijen.

How long have you been feeding Orijen? When was the switch completed?
It does take some time to get the old stuff out and the new stuff working.
However if it has been a while I would def. consider switching to the fish formula. Could be a reaction to a protien source ( such as chicken) in the regular formula.
Best bet is to find something that is VERY different from what you are feeding ( if you have been feeding it a while) if it is allergies to food, you have to remember that they cant have treats either which contain the possible culprits. ( whether it be corn or chicken)
Have you talked to your vet about Benadryl too in the even it is seasonal?

I would list the ingredients for both the vet food and the orijen and look for common culprits and then try to find a food that eliminates them. I have tried the orijen fish and both dogs have done very well with it although I have added a bit of pumpkin for some extra fiber.

I agree with Teri about listing the ingredients of both foods. Also, chronic ear infections can also be a symptom of hypothyroidism.

Your dog may also have a problem with yeast. Try some something like http://www.biokplus.com/ which has a high live culture content. We've been using the Orijen 6-fish quite happily since it came on the market. Poops are a little softer than usual but other than that, I've been very happy with my dog's improved overall health.

My boy had pretty bad ear issues too. They got a bit better when I introduced him to EVO but still not 100%. I give him coconut oil now and haven't had a single problem (:fingerscr ) since, and that's been a few months now - before he was getting one infection after another for about 6 months straight.

Hi Tommy's mom - do you give it in his food or in his ear directly??
