sick cat
 

My cat is losing weight fast, sleeps a lot and has foul smelling
breath. He's around 10 yrs. Does anyone have any ideas?

Kidney problems?

Whatever it is, nobody can diagnose him from here. Take him to your vet.

I had an appt. for Mon. with the vet. Since this was happening over the Christmas holidays, I wasn't sure if I should try to wait or bring him to an emergency center. I suspected kidney also, I guess I was hoping someone would tell me different. I just felt so helpless. I decided to take him to the emergency center the next day. The vet called that morning and said she had a cancelation, so she came right over. His kidneys are shuting down, she took blood and the numbers were right off the chart. He doesn't seem to be in any pain, so we are trying to keep him as comfortable as possible until his time comes.

Aww, I am afraid it was kidneys. :( It's good he's not in pain, though.
He's lucky to have you though, it seems a lot of elderly cats succumb to this.

Your vet actually came to your house?

funnyface - cat's don't get colds like people do, but they can get respiratory infections. He'd need antibiotics to clear it up...I'm not sure about home remedies, if that's the case. You might want to start a seperate thread or look through the vet forum here.
