Westminster Dog Show?!

Has anybody watched any of this? OMG, some of those dogs, especially the toy breeds are barely dogs anymore!! The Peke had to be the worst..like really why? The poor dog looked like it could barely walk let alone trot!! I don't like watching it much but will have a peek for a bit. I think last year, the Shepherd looked like it's back end would collapse at any second.

Yikes! I have never seen it but just googled it... I saw a dog that I swear looks like cousin it

I guess is no different than people that put their kids in beauty pageants, no offence to anyone that does, but its just definitely not my thing...

Yeah I watched the dog show and I did not think Banana Joe had a very cute face . The toy dogs legs are very short ,they were cute . I really like the terriers group of dogs and did not realize there so many kind of terriers

I guess people put their dogs in the show hoping it will win so they breed their pet and get more money for the puppies from coming a prize winning dog.

There's actually a lot more to showing than that. Loki was shown and received his CKC championship, but we aren't looking to breed by any stretch of the imagination. And if you think the reputable breeders are making money off their litters, it may interest you to go to a few shows and talk to some breeders and find out just how much money they make ;)

Not everything is so black and white.

I have to agree with LokiLove. I don't think my breeders make nearly what they spend on dog shows and such. They really are trying to better the breed, not just make money off the pups. I'm sure some do, but I don't think that is what drives them to be honest. Grooming some of these dogs is a major work of love.

Haven't seen this movie yet but the breeder of the Siberians Huskies I had growing up was an assistant with the backstage production on the movie.
(She's no longer breeding Sibes)

Etown_Chick February 16th, 2013 08:59 PM

Even the Old English Sheepdog that won best in its category was so odd looking...didnt' even have eyes!
I don't personally believe that these breeders are necessarily trying to better the breed. I think there are quite a few that breed the traits THEY want...the Peke for example
