-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Woman fined $600 for cruelty to animals LIVERPOOL - A Liverpool woman was fined $600 Tuesday on animal cruelty charges. Jennifer Slaunwhite, 19, pleaded guilty to leaving her Rottweiler, German shepherd and Valley bulldog in a bedroom at her grandfather's house for at least a week. Doris Taylor of the Queens County SPCA said Ms. Slaunwhite got off far too easy. "The animals were locked in a room that wasn't cleaned, with no water and one bag of food ripped open in the corner," Ms. Taylor said. "She just left them there and never came back. She's a collector, really. I can't prove that, but I know she's done this before." A veterinarian found all the dogs to be underweight. The Rottweiler was pregnant and had to have her litter aborted and the shepherd had ear problems that needed treatment. The SPCA has found homes for all three animals but must pay the medical bills and kennel costs, while Ms. Slaunwhite has the option of replacing her fine with community service. "We now have to take the loss," said Ms. Taylor. "But at least the dogs are away from her now." |
Its just crazy that after saving these dogs the shelter has to pay. I mean who is getting punished?
