Beautiful flowers Chico. I don't have any roses yet, you are so lucky.
Is the the spider wart that you don't like? I love them. |
So pretty, chico!!! I always love your garden pics :flirt:
The Virginia Creeper looks beautiful on that spruce, but how do you keep it from strangling the tree?! Is there some trick to it? It tends to get out of hand here, so we end up just pulling it when we see it. Your mystery plant in the first post looks like a spiderwort (Tradescantia spp)! I love spiderwort :lovestruck: I'll take it if you decide to pull it up! :p What's the pink-flowered shrub that starts off your third post? Looks like something the hummingbirds would love! :D |
Right onthe money guys! Its a spiderwart! I have quite a bunch of them! :thumbs up
Chico love the pics! your garden is always so beautiful! |
I love looking at your garden chico.
everything is beautiful!!!! even the purple flowers :) |
Thank's,Hazel I really don't know what that bush is called,I've had it for about 10yrs.Maybe I have hummers going there, but I am not often in the front-yard.
As for the Virginia creeper,I don't think it damages the Blue Spruce,it's doing fine, but we pull the creeper down a couple of times in the summer. |

Maybe that's the trick--just to get out there more often to rip it down. There's some Virginia creeper growing in the woods near here that's just about smothered an old oak! |
Oh no,that's terrible..I have to tell hubs, maybe he'll pull it down permanently:thumbs up
|
I'm laughing, Chico, because recently a Garden Express catalogue arrived and the clematis I marked as a 'must have' is (I think) that one you've shown a photo of. Is it's name Niobe? It's beautiful. Your Spiderwort is lovely and looking it up finally gave me the name of its relative that I have here, Tradescantia pallida 'Purple Heart', so thanks for showing that one. Peony roses are also for sale in that catalogue, one rare one they want $18 for, which I suppose is better than their Tree Peonies, $38 each. I'm tempted but maybe it'd be too hot here. Yours is gorgeous anyway amd I'm suitably envious. Your fuzzy rose looks a bit like Iced Ginger.
Must cut this short(ha! ha!) , I am giving my roses some Seasol today. Oh, looked Peonies up and they can be grown here. Yay! |
You have fabulous gardens with plenty of variety and it shows in your pictures. :cloud9:
Truly enjoy all your photos Chico. :thumbs up |
I just love your flowers, your yard is beautiful
|
Thank's everyone!
So,Spiderwort is the name..maybe I'll be kind and let it stay.. GF,I do not know the name of the Clematis, just that it is a Clematis,I don't know the name of much that I have, not too important as long as it grows:laughing: |
Your flowers are lovely, even the spiderwort. Someone in my village doesn't like them either and dumped them in the forest (big NO, NO) Guess where they live now? I have white, purple, mauve and two blues, one dark and one light. They are great for my low maintenance garden but they do need more water than most things I have. I try to xeriscape.
|
Longblades,I think the problem with those are, they spread like crazy, also deadheading them is a bit of a problem.
Hazel, the Creeper is all gone from the Spruce, the tree thank's you...OMG,did the Creeper have long roots..:yell: |
chico I love your gardens! I had some of that purple stuff too it was called transdentia or spider wrot and I didn't like it either. I kept pulling it out and it kept coming back. I still think I have some! And I found some engleman vine in the backyard wrapped around my shubert cherry tree! I'm going to have to get out there and get rid of it...again. LOL
chico about the peony not having many flowers it might be too deep, try scrapping away some of the top soil and see if that helps next year. |
Hazel, the Creeper is all gone from the Spruce, the tree thank's you...OMG,did the Creeper have long roots..:yell:
 Oh, no! I didn't mean to be responsible for Creeper Carnage!! But the spruce will likely be happier without it :o Yep, the roots are pretty long and you'll have to watch for it cuz it'll likely try to make a comeback. It does around here, anyway... |
I have the same spiderwort (sp?) in my front bed that I'm also digging up this year Chico, what a pain it is!! I love all your flowers!!!
|
Hazel,oh yeah,we know all about the Creeper:laughing:it creeps up everywhere..
Melinda,I am digging mine out too,in the fall, probably will put it in an empty corger somewhere. |
chico, the bush Hazel was referring to is a hummingbird bush, I'm pretty sure anyways, I bought one the very same a few years ago and thats what the tag says (I leave tags on if possible) *L*, there are different kinds of hummingbird bushes
|
Does it have a scientific name on it, Melinda? The only hummingbird bush varieties coming up on google are hardy to zone 8 only, and I need something zone 3. :o I'm assuming that you and chico must be at least zone 4?
|
I am going to check my bush-book..I am certain I was given a name her,but I forget:frustrated:
|
I belive it's a Weigela,mine is called Abel Carriere,but I could be wrong,it's hard to tell from a picture in a book.
|
I'll have to go check the tag on mine, I posted a pic of it on "my yard" thread
