Fur around eyes
 

Hopefully this is the right area to post this if not please shift to wherever is :laughing:

I need some tips on dealing with the fur around the eye area of a shih-tzu X.. he's 3.5mths old and getting all dirty in the fur around the eye area, i guess pretty typical of the shih-tzu tearing issues? he doesn't have an eye infection or anything.

i do wash his face down often much to his annoyance :crazy: but it's still hard to keep it clean enough..

maybe i should trim the fur on his head & muzzle shorter? would that help?...

I have a 5 month old shih tzu, and what I"ve been doing is taking a warm face cloth and washing under her eyes best I can, but I find 1/2 the time the goop doesn't come out and I have to pull it out with a kleenex even after the wash. the Dirty is likly the tear stains. Abby's tear stains seem very heavy and I'm guessing it's because she is teething, so have to hold out on if that gets better or not for a bit. I did read that corn starch helps dry that area up and helps keep it white. I've tried it 2x's now, but so far it seems it does nothing but clumps and ticks her off. Guess it does dry it for a little bit of time ( an hour or so)

Some people do trim the hair around their nose and keep it short. That is an option but once you do that you will have to keep doing it since that hair grows as fast as the rest of her/his hair. And once it's cut can't pull it up out of her eyes. Wish I had some great answers for you. Seems all I have is more questions to add to yours :-). Lets hope someone comes along and helps us both out ,, :-)

I have the same problem with Magic. We've been trying to just wipe them on a daily basis. Has anyone tried any of the drops or wipes you can buy at the pet stores?

Save your money. Been there done that too. So far the warm water and than taking out what I don't get with a kleenex seems to be the best, but it's really not that great. the stuff for tear stains isn't working. Although I have heard good things about Angel Eyes, but not sure I"m willing to put out 50 dollars to deal with tear stains, and I'm not sure if that really helps with the gooy's
