Sore foot

On Blaze's front right paw at the outside nail where the nail meets the foot there is a small red scab. No swelling, no heat but very tender to touch. I accidently discovered it when I went to clip her nails today and she freaked when I jiggled the toenail.

I'm ticked off because we were just at the vet this morning for her monthly cartrophen injection and if I had known I could have asked him.

What I did was clean it with a warm paper towel really well, dry it and apply some neosporan (which she licked off 10 min later). :frustrated:

I thought maybe tomorrow I could soak it in warm water and epsom salts? If I don't notice an improvement in the next week I'll call my vet but any ideas in the meantime that I could try?

Sounds like you are doing everything right! Great job.

Note on topical antibiotics - after 10-15 minutes, most of the active ingredients should have been absorbed so, if he licks it off - the medication has already gone to where it needs to go.

Occasionally with toes, yeast is a common microbe which neosporin will not affect. If we are concerned about possible yeast, then white vinegar soaks (using an old coffee mug) work great!

Hard to say what it may be from without seeing it. Again, sounds like you are doing a great job.:highfive:

A couples days ago this nail actually fell off revealing a new, thin, nail underneath. Looks a little red but I think it feels better for Blaze; like maybe the pressure is off of it now.
