West Highland Terrier Pup with eye problems
woi all,
We have a new westie pup - he's 9 weeks old, and has been in good health for the week and a half we have had him. About two days ago, I noticed a little brown scum around his right eye, as if it were watering excessively. He has scratched at it once or twice but not much. I had a look at him this evening, and it appears as if the eye is now tinted and it looks as if there is a mark on the pupil, like a hair or something may be stuck on his eyeball (though would this cloud the pupil?) He is eating / drinking / pooping / peeing sleeping perfectly well, and he is still his boistrous giddy self. His vision seems to be ok too, but I was wondering if someone could advise me on what might be wrong. I don't really want to try bathing his eye unless advised to. I was wondering if maybe his snouth hair has irritated his eye or something. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks Colin |
Eyes are just too precious to mess with, so where eyes are concerned, we always seek a vet's opinion. Your pup may have something like conjunctivitis, or perhaps has scratched the cornea somehow. Only a vet will be able to give you a definitive answer and treatment options.
In the meanwhile, though, it is almost always safe to flush eyes with sterile saline. If there is debris in the eye, it may flush it out, and at the very least it seems to be soothing... :thumbs up Good luck with your pup and let us know what the vet says! :goodvibes: |
