AMO deciding if they can afford ban?!?

The maniciplalities are unsure if they will be able to afford the funding for enforcing the ban and there has been no indication of who will fund the enforcement of the ban in rural areas... this man has NOTHING organized... just his hatred of the breed....and he's pushing this through without sorting out the important facts... there's a GREAT government, we should be proud!

[quote]AMO Working to Ensure Pit Bull Ban is Practical for Municipalities
TORONTO, Oct. 15 /CNW/ - AMO President Roger Anderson today announced
that the Association of Municipalities of Ontario will work to ensure that
proposed legislation to ban Pit Bull Terriers in Ontario is practical,
affordable and effective for Ontario municipalities.
"Animal control, enforcement and licensing are largely municipal
responsibilities," said Anderson. "AMO will be working to ensure the
Province's proposed pit bull ban is practical, affordable and effective."
A number of Ontario municipalities either have an existing pit bull ban
in place or have been working toward implementing one. The legislation would
ensure consistency throughout the province.
AMO will be meeting with Ontario's Attorney General within the week to
contribute municipal insight into the drafting of proposed legislation. These
discussions will focus primarily on how municipalities would finance public
education, enforcement and animal control responsibilities. These costs have
not been budgeted and could greatly exceed the limited revenue municipalities
would generate through related fines and licensing.
AMO will seek clear definitions of which breeds would be banned and what
responsibilities all dog owners would have under the legislation. In addition,
AMO will seek the Province's commitment to accept responsibility for
enforcement of the ban in remote areas of the province that are outside
municipal boundaries.

The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is a non-profit
organization representing almost all of Ontario's 445 municipal governments.
AMO supports and enhances strong and effective municipal government in Ontario
and promotes the value of municipal government as a vital and essential
component of Ontario and Canada's political system.
