Help!

We got our puppy spayed four days ago. We have another week before we can get the stitches taken out. Sunshine is turning out to have a positive genius for undoing and destroying the elizabethan collar. First, she figured out how to turn the collar around so the tabs are under her chin. THen, she figured out how to squeeze the collar between her front paws so the tabs pop open and she can chew them to shreds. Dad tried to duct tape the collar shut but she tore off the duct t ape and is working on the replacement tape. Does anyone know of a way to keep the colllar chew proof? THe Elizabethan collar is attached to her regular collar, this kept her from just pulling the whole thing off, but isn't helping with anything else. Sunshine has to wear this collar constantly, because the minute it comes off she goes for her stitches even with supervision. And I have 7 more days of not letting her get thsoe stitches left!

LOL, Sunshine sounds like one determined doggy. :D

Maybe one of the inflatable collars would be a better option ....

Maybe give the vet a call and see if they have Variton cream to smear around the stiches, not on the stiches(just close enough to where her tounge would come into contact with it, it tastes really bad and most dogs really don't like it....if she gets the collar off or just to try to see if with the cream and no collar while watching her she'll leave it alone after tasting it. Also if you don't have the see threw e collar maybe try one of the one of the clear ones. Maybe if she can see threw it she won't be so upset with having it on.

yes, Dustybird, the collar is see through. It doesn`t seem to have helped. She can see what she wants, but not touch it, and that seems to be particularly frustrating. I did see those optional collars on another thread here, but the inflatable one doesn`t ship to Canada, and either way, by the time they arrive Sunshine won`t need one anymore.
