Reactions to Vaccinations

On Saturday morning (May 3) I took my beautiful, vibrant, healthy Brussels Griffon to the vet for his annual booster shots. Within 15 hours he was he was lethargic, his breathing was laboured and he had vomiting and diarrhea and a runny nose.

I took him to the vet this morning - the vet says that he has a high fever, high blood sugar, and high levels of pancreatic enzymes. The vet has kept him overnight, administering IV and suspecting diabetes and pancreatits.

I can only believe that it is related to the vaccine.

Has anyone had this experience? Any advice/treatment option that you can offer?

Hi RileyB. I can't help you, just did not want you to think we are not sympathetic to the problem. I have two cats who react with lethargy and we make sure their Vac. are given separately, not all at once. It helps. Your problem sounds much more serious. How is the pooch now? What does the Vet say?

I came across this article with the last few days......

It's NOT an easy read, but (IMO) so very worthwhile.

It's becoming oh, so obvious to me that the over-vaccinating is an epidemic in itself!

It's here

My personal opinion, based on only lay persons experience over a lifetime of pet ownership is: I do not vaccinate. For the reasons stated in that article--I believe it creates more risk to vaccinate than to use good judgement in where puppies and kittens go while their immune systems mature. In my own family, I was only vaccinated when it was the law--same as my children. I have seen both people and animals with horrible reactions to vaccinations. This is just the way I feel, and the way I choose to deal with the issue. I know most pet owners are opposed to my viewpoint.

I so hope your little dog pulls through with no further complications!

DoubleRR,I don't think many are opposed to your view on vaccinations, most of us question the need for yearly vacs.
Rileyb,I hope your pup will recover:fingerscr

DoubleRR you might be surprised to find out just how many people don't disagree with you. From working at a vet run boarding kennel, i don't get them vaccinated after the first set. It's like the flu shot for us, they have no idea what it is, may work may not.
