Introducing Pete . . . .
 

Pete, a 2.5 year-old owner surrender Golden, has joined Ruby and ourselves.

Pete and Ruby below, two days in, are getting along fabulously, as though they've been friends forever, although still deciding on the toy ownership issue.

We were not looking for a new Golden right now but our neighbours, also heartbroken over the loss of Abby and Keeper late last year, heard of the opportunity, brought our name into it and then served as a matchmaker.

Pete comes from a young lady in downtown Calgary and was very well looked after and much loved. Unfortunately, there are some lifestyle changes coming in her life - perhaps moving to Vancouver for Art School - and she felt she would not be able to give Pete - formerly Tate - the hours he deserved.

For our part, we were putting off the search for a few months to let Ruby settle in more . . . . but the early reviews on this are very positive and Pete seems to be loving his new life and the new attention.

Abby and Keeper were unique of course and Pete and Ruby will write their own legends and legacy, just as the former did. There isn't any attempt to recreate something that has passed.

Still, for the first time since Abby and Keeper left, it feels like a certain balance has returned to our house . . . . even the cats seem to sense it.

What a handsome guy and what a nice addition to your family. Here's hoping that all will be fine and we're looking forward to new golden tales and adventures!

I know that feeling...even with our beautiful Zoey. We know it is going to take another dog to balance things out. Patient and hopeful we get as lucky as you when our time comes.

I defy anyone to look at that first photo and remain straight faced. :) They look so happy together, and so alike. I also thought 'litter mates?' . I think it's very nice that your neighbors stepped in like that , Rick, good people. They deserve to be just as happy with your dogs as you are.

It's still wall-to-wall snow a little west of us, in Brown Lowery Park and Pete was loving it, burrowing into it and trying to bury himself.

Another early morning tug of war . . . . its hard to tell which is which but Pete is on the left, Ruby on the right. Top right of the picture, you can see some big banks of snow still lingering, even out in the open. It was a terrible winter but the grass is starting to green up. The leaves on the trees will be very late this year.
