Desperate help needed
 

My cat is around 4 years old and suffers from chronic constipation. He is presently at the vet and my last resort is a colascopy. I need to know if it is worth it. What are the side effects besides diarrhea. I so don't want to have my little baby euthanized. I have been crying for the past 4 days and cannot see myself living without my cat. The vet tried to removed its feces from the colon but wasn't entirely successful. I don't care if my cat sh!ts on the floor, on my bed or me, it can always be cleaned. I want my baby to have a good quality life. I want to hear from owners who have gone through the same thing. I only have a few days left. Yuki, that is my cat's name, is the best thing that has ever happened in my life. I've rescued him and want the best life possible for this God sent gift. Please send feedback. Thank you.

What are you feeding Yuki and what measures have you tried already to combat the constipation?

Has Yuki had either an xray or an ultrasound to rule out structural problems in the intestines?

Same question here , this can only be a matter of food. :goodvibes: I had a cat with the same problem , back then I didn't know too much about cat food so I got him on Fiber formula from the vet and it worked. But now , there's other food than the vet's that you can try (premium canned food) or raw diet.

Well I agree with the other two posts. Has the vet done xrays or anything to confirm that there's no blockage or any abnormalities in Yuki's intestines? If they can rule those things out then you need to look at diet. I won't give you any advice on that as I don't have cats now, so others here will be able to help you much better than I. Food is a huge culprite for many issues.

It sounds like your pet may be 'Obstipated' instead of just Constipated.... When you say colonoscopy, is the veterinarian recommending anesthesia with manual removal of the feces? If this is so, then we may have some form of obstipation occurring.

Once the colon is emptied out - then we need to figure out a longer term issue which may involve food changing. It may involve chronic use of laxatives. It may also require looking for an underlying problem that is causing dehydration such as kidney disease, etc....

If the procedure is too expensive, then I have have some cases respond to repetititve awake enemas. It may take longer to be able to de-obstipate (if that is what is going on).
