Flying Westjet: How strict are the crate regulations?

Hi There,

I am wondering about flying our dog with westjet and how strict their crate regulations are. We have a 40lb husky/greyhound mix and are hoping to fly him in baggage, however are having trouble finding a crate with the size restriction of 36 in. L x 24 in. W x 26 in H (we would like to get it as big as we can). We have found one that is 27 in H, however it is one inch higher than they accept. Has anyone ran into this problem and know if they are flexible? Or know of any crate with West Jet's size restriction?

Thanks :)

They don't seem to be very strict. The dimensions of the crate you got sound like the Vari 400 kennel, which is very commonly used, if not the most common brand. I flew my dog in one of those with Westjet, and there was no problem at all. In fact, a friend of mine flies her dog in a 500 sized crate, which is substantially bigger, and there has been no problem.

kelly_m019 how did it go with your dog?? That one inch is killing me too. I wish Westjet would realize this is not a typical sized cage and quote one inch higher on their website. satchelp's message helped too but would love one more piece of reassurance.
