Cancer transmission through licking?
My neighbour put down a dog who had recurring cancer. The cancer lumps were on his back, just dripping with discharge and pus. I know cancer is not contagious, but would my dog get any chance of getting sick by visiting? She always tends to sniff out all corners and lick floors, etc.

That sounds like a terrible way to lose a pet, please extend my sympathies to your friend :(
As to whether your dog can get sick from anything in her house, I won't say no. Your dog can get sick going for a walk around the block, there are microbes everywhere just looking to set up shop :) However, I wouldn't be terribly concerned if it were my dog going in. |
Cancer is not contagious. If the dog is in good health aside from the cancer, then the risk imo, is identical to your dog entering a room with any other strange dog.

If those sores had bacteria in them, perhaps by directly licking them there might be an issue, particularly if your dog was compromised in some way. But being over there now, I wouldn't worry.
I understand the worry though. My boy had persistent infections of unknown origins, and I worried about bringing a new pup in, but we do our best by keeping our dogs healthy, with an immune system that hopefully will be resistant to infection. |
