How not to teach a dog to climb!!

1 Attachment(s)
This is absolutely disgusting and dragging a dog up a wall by it's collar in the name of 'urban agility' is totally unprofessional and cruel! Bayley loves to climb up rocks and stuff but she does it under her own power not by getting dragged!! There's another picture of them doing this with a Golden Retriever!! Far from a small dog with not much weight!

WT?! The poor dog could choke to death, that is animal abuse!

pattymac May 11th, 2013 01:36 PM

ya this is one of the things that you can expect to make your dog do if you take classes from a Brad Pattison taught person!!

Nice way to cut off air supply when it's most needed, cause throat damage, instill fear in your dog and teach the human what NOT to do with their dog. My husband did some climbing with our dogs but they were wearing harnesses, like human climbers do. This ''trainer'' should be avoided like the plague.

Where was this? did you take the picture?

:frustrated:

I think Calgary and no I didn't take it...I would've been too angry! There's absolutely no training/teaching going on here!

I would have had a serious talk with them if I would have seeing it! (Maybe punch someone too )

I would had reported them for animal abuse.

One of his other trainers posted videos on their way of doing agility, I've never seen such a bunch of unhappy, totally disconnected from their people dogs in all my life! Bayley's no agility dog but even she really enjoys tunnels, a-frames and the dog walk, and just running around and through and over things

Marty would spend hours just sniffing , digging , and playing with other dogs.
He has bronchitis and if I made him do wall climbing like that is would kill him as he get SOB very easy. I wish someone would report those people before a poor dog get badly hurt or dies.

I fell for him for awhile but didn't take me long to realize it wasn't for me or for Bayley. Fortunately he's mostly off tv here, I think bbc Canada has it on like at 5:30 in the morning. Can't see many going out of their way to watch it!

lol yes I guess that would have been my next action  I'm not all about violence I swear :p

But, if say they were "registered trainers" (not sure if that term exists, but anyways) would you be able to still report them for animal abuse? wouldn't they discard it as "well they are trainers, so the may know what they are doing..."?:confused:

In the city where I am from back in Mexico, they now have a line (sort of like a 911) for reporting animal abuse, I think its a brilliant idea.

minmin12 May 13th, 2013 10:21 AM

Wtf!!!

For the love of all our furry friends. I first would have climbed up and knocked one of those idiots to the ground. Secondly that poor dog is lucky to be alive. I am an activist when it comes to animal cruelty. The cops would have been phoned and as soon as they arrived I would prove to them what had been going on and then Animal Services would have been contacted actually they could not do anything, the Humane Society would indight these fools for sure.

Unfortunately...shelters and places like that bring him in to 'help' with their dogs!! Last year the shelter up in Whitehorse brought him in. It's sad what being a 'celebrity' does to normal people's thought processes! They think well he's got a tv show and written a few poorly written books, he must be an expert and know what he's doing!!

I found a link for Certified Dog Trainer school , but anyone can set up training classes for dogs . I don't think there is any agency that check up on dogs trainers. People really need to find out what method the trainer uses to train dogs and if that person really has any background in training dogs.

pattymac May 13th, 2013 06:20 PM

there isn't any sort of regulations or agency that oversees dog training and there really should be. Any doorknob can claim to be a trainer or worse behaviourist. Anytime I hear of a trainer, the first thing I do now is google them.

It's the same for dog groomers , anyone can say they're a dog groomer. I agree there need to be some sort of regulations or agency checking up on trainers and groomers .
