GREAT dog biscuits!!

This is a wonderful recipe. I'm no baker, but they are simple and the dough is easy to work with. This recipe makes a lot of biscuits. Chloe tested them and gives them a 5 Star Rating!:p
---------------------------------------
"What a Good Dog" biscuit mix

1/3 cup margarine
3 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup powdered skim milk
1/4 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp Parmesan cheese (optional)
3/4 cup water - room temp.
1 egg, beaten

In large bowl, cream margarine and flour. Set aside

In another bowl, dissolve skim milk, garlic powder in water and whisk in egg.

Make a well in flour mixture. Stir in egg mixture and blend well.

Knead dough on a floured surface til easy to work with.

Roll out dough to less than 1/2 inch thickness.

Cut with cookie cutter. Place on lightly greased baking sheet.

Bake 50 minutes at 325F

Store at room temp in a container.

Makes about 50 cookies.

I just made these, cut them into cute star shapes. I altered the recipe a bit- instead of all margarine, I substituted some peanut butter. Also, I finely chopped half an apple and added that too!
I cooked mine for 50 mins exactly and they are quite crunchy.
But Molly approves!!! :dog: :thumbs up
Thanks for the recipe!

I buy doggy treats that has carrots and garlic. Maybe it's the amount , not too much ..... I know they can't have oignons though.

Interesting... I too, have been questioning the garlic content in my dogs treats - very recently, in fact. I have read up on this topic, and the literature claims that this ingredient is not good for dogs, but have been otherwise informed that small quantities are ok (there is no onion in the ingredients).

I have found what seems to be a very good treat for my dog. It is holistic, and comes in a variety of types for skin, joint, intestinal/ digestion, etc...The quality of my dogs skin has improved noticeably since I started her on these treats, and I am now trying out a new type of biscuit(same company), geared at joint issues.

She just loves these treats, and hopefully I will see improvements - even if they are small ones:cool:

Interesting idea, to bake treats for you dog! This recipe looks simple and good, I will have to try it. I don't think a little garlic is bad for them
