Viralyse?
 

Got an email from Anita at catnap cottages and she says Bunduk is breathing hard/coughing a bit and it seems like hes getting a bout of upper resp. problems (he will always suffer from this).

She asked if she could give him viralyse twice a day to boost his immune system a bit and said that kitties with a history of URI are often brought to catnap with this.

I already Ok-ed this but just want to know if anyone has ever heard of it, had any experience with it? Any sideeffects etc? She says its not a drug so im assuming it some natural concoction or something?

[B]Onster[/B] the Viralys is made by Vet Solutions & is a L Lysine product to help relieve the symptoms of URI, shouldn't have any problems with it especially since they have used it on other cats.

Does Bunduk get upper respiratory problems a lot? Viralyse may be exactly what you were looking for to keep him healthy! :thumbs up What a great unexpected benefit to boarding them!

Does anyone know of any stores where I can buy Viralyse? (other than on the internet) Does Petsmart sell it? Or vets? My cat has an URI and it would be nice to do something for him. He has had the condition since I got him as a kitten. Once a year or so he gets a cold and sneezes consantly. It always clears up but I feel bad for him. I would like to be able to go out and get some of this Viralyse in the next day if it is sold anywhere. Please let me know. Thanks.

[B]roadie28[/B] Viralys is made by Vet Solutions so it can be ordered by your veterinarian if they don't already stock it.

Viralys is basically flavoured L-lysine, so you could just go to a health food store and pick up a bottle of plain L-lysine powder (it would be cheaper, too). A good maintenance dose is about 250mg per day, up to 1000mg per day if there are URI symptoms. It's easily mixed with wet food or a tasty treat like meat baby food (no onions).

Thanks growler and sugarcatmom. I called my vet and they do have some Viralys in stock available without a prescription. That is a relief since my cat is super high-strung and getting him to the vet is a nightmare. So I am going to pick up some from the vet this afternoon. It's not cheap, $32.00 + taxes, but I will try this first then think about getting the plain L-lysine powder later on if I need it.

It was the same with Lactulose syrup that I need for my other cat. The vet sells a tiny bottle for over $30 but I found out I could get a huge bottle at Costco for $9, same exact stuff, so that was awesome.

One thing you may want to try when he gets sick, in addition to the L-Lysine, is some plain chicken soup/ broth. My vet suggested this..just something warm to help them feel better I suppose and get liquids in. Make sure theres no onions though.
