The closest I ever came to feeling like a "hoarder" was when I was breeding and showing cats. The were all home raised, though I did have a special cattery room and felt comfortable with 6-8 adult cats But I remember one time 3 of my queens gave birth almost at the same time, and I had a total of 19 including kittens. What a lot of work that was! After that I vowed I'd never exceed my comfort level.
