sisters dog jumps on me

My sister lives in a house trailer on our farm and her dog runs at me all the time and jumps on me at full tilt. When she is not home the dog is a real gentleman and plays around me while I do the chores and always listens. But the minute she gets home all heck breaks loose and he starts the jumping again. I have tried grabbing his front feet and pulling them up, and releasing them and getting down to his level to make him sit and calm down. But this only makes him more hyper. Need help please and some advice. Thanks!!

Even negative attention is preferred to no attention, by some dogs.

How old is this dog? What breed? How big? Does he have any training? Is he alone all day?

His name is Gus and he is a Shepherd Cross and he weighs about 35 lbs. He doesn't have any training other than, he knows the sit and lay down commands and uses them when he wants to. He is about 3 1/2 years old I think, I will ask her later today. It usually doesn't take him too long to learn things. He seems quite smart. My sister is home all the time with him except for short trips to town. But she doesn't spend time in training. It is like he thinks like a child, I will listen to you when my mom isn't home but I don't have to when she is. Like I said he is a perfect gentleman when she isn't home. He will sit nice when asked, and doesn't chase the barn cats ect. But when she is home look out! I have two Labs of my own a Red male and a Black female. I can let the female outside with him, but have to keep my male in, when Gus is outside because they hate each other and will fight. So we alternate them.

You're right - dogs often behave worse when owners are around, which is why many vets keep owners away when they are treating their dogs! Dogs catch on incredibly fast to what they can and cannot get away with.

To teach this dog not to jump on you, do not wave your arms, yell or push him down. This is rewarding him for jumping - he probably enjoys all the excitement.

Here's a link to get you started if you want to train this dog to behave.

Thanks: Yesterday I thought I would spend a little time with him outside, so I threw his knotted rope for him, but he wanted to play keep away with it, so I wouldn't try to take it unless he gave it to me. I would just say No! and then make him sit and release it. I threw it a few times but it is very cold these past few days
-42 C. Yikes!! He only jumped on me once after that but he is sneaky and nailed me in the middle of my back!
