Good lower protein diet for dog with liver issues?

Just wondering if anyone could suggest a good diet for a 3 year old Chihuahua who has had liver issues. Her counts have been elevated and we have another appointment with the specialist on Monday morning to figure out next steps (already done an ultrasound).

I don't plan to change anything until I speak to the specialist but....

Just to pass the time I am starting to look into possibly changing her diet. She has been on Orijen dry puppy food and Merrick's canned puppy plate forever (we keep her on puppy because she has always had issues keeping weight on). However, now that these liver issues are arising I'm wondering if I should be looking for a less protein-rich diet.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or successes they could share.

I use to use human liver detox pills for my lab/dane/rotti, I made all her food, boiled chicken breast, rice, 4 tums for calcium, and 4 detox pills, the vet was amazed at how it improved her liver function.

Might want to ask the specialist about a supplement with milk thistle. It's supposed to really help the liver. Rgeurts recommended it to me and I asked my vet about it. He said it was a good idea since my dog, Keely, had some elevated liver values on her bile acid test and now she has been on a vitamin liquid called Hepato Support for over two months. I can't say if it's working because she isn't due for a blood test for a couple of months, but we're hopeful! And I do think Rgeurts found it helped a lot for one of her boys.

That sounds wonderful, melinda :thumbs up. Good wholesome natural way to get vitamins.
