DD, how was Shadow's weight check?

I'm hoping that it was good, and that she didn't lose more. BIG :grouphug: to you both!

Hi Rgeurts, thanks for asking about Shadow. She has gained 1 lb in the last ten days. That said, I think we're in the final countdown.

She had a rough night last night, not health related, but she was laying on the floor and when she went to get up (which is always difficult as she slips on the wood floors) her collar was caught to the furnace vent cover. She pulled it right out of the floor and scared the crap out of herself - not literally (yet, that came later...). After that she couldn't even stand up she was so shocked. Anyhow, a little while later I gave each of the dogs a dried duck jerky treat. While they ate that I went down to get a chicken out of the freezer. When I came back DH was kneeling in front of Shadow screaming at me to come help. She clearly had the treat stuck somewhere and was quite in distress. I pulled her mouth open and couldn't see it in her throat, so stuck my hand in her mouth, thinking I'm going to get bit here. I found the darn thing stuck to the roof of her mouth, wedged right up there. It took a minute or two to be able to pop it out as she was struggling alot. So after it was out, she proceeded to eat it of course! All in all it was a stressful night for her. I walked her twice after that, if you can call our outings a walk anymore. Half a block down the road and back, that's all she'll do. I thought it may calm her down a bit, relieve some stress.

Off to bed at 10:30 and at 1:30 I got up to go to the washroom and a minute later Shadow was behind me. I tried to lead her to the door to go out, but she didn't want to go, so back to the bedroom to find that she had pooped on the floor, hence why she didn't want to go out! Oh well, it was a quick and easy clean up and we all went back to bed. She's been much less restless at night lately, but I think it's really just because it's too hard for her to get up and move around so much now.

Long answer to how was Shadow's weight huh! Sorry... How's Nookie doing today? Any ideas about what's going on with his weight?? Big hugs back at you guys too!

My heart goes out to both of you and everyone that has animals that have problems.

Thank goodness that there are people like you two who love them unconditionally just as they love us unconditionally. :grouphug::grouphug:

Sylvie, I think that all of the regulars on this board can be counted in your list of people who love our pets unconditionally. You know that you are one of us! I think of you and all the others constantly, knowing we share so many of the same issues.

I mentioned in another thread about seeing Mr. Big the Akita on my drive in, I haven't seen him in days now and am worried that he may be gone, but if that is so, I know it was his time. He also struggled daily, it was plain to see.

Thanks for the kind thoughts Sylvie, I hope your Shadow is doing well these days. Always in my thoughts.:grouphug:

DD you are so right, there are so many good people on this board and in the general public, we just don't hear enough about the good people enough.

Awww... poor Shadow, and you! Sounds like you both had a bit of a rough night :(
Give her a hug for me :cloud9:
I'm glad to see that she gained a pound though!! Hopefully she will hold out and give you a little more quality time with her, sweet old girl :cloud9:

I'm always so worried about the jerky and choking. I don't know what brand you use, but be careful with them. We made a HUGE mistake of giving Thorin TONS of them over a few years. The brand was Waggin' Tails or something like that, the chicken jerky. One thing I ddn't realize is that certain brands can cause cancer because they are irradiated. Look for a little radiation symbol anywhere on the package. On ours it was on the back, at the bottom and not too noticeable. Once I realized what it was, we immediately stopped using them. Dr. marsden said it may have contributed to Thorins cancer.

OMG! That's the brand we have, but it's duck jerky. Will take a look at the bag when I get home. The radiation thing won't be an issue for Shadow of course :(, but certainly something I'll have to be aware of for Halo. We've only just used one bag. I know for now when they get them they will be broken very tiny! Thanks for the heads up, I would never have looked for that! I just liked it because it had no chicken in because Halo is allergic to chicken... :wall:
