Lost it tonight...
So my crew went to an apartment full of smoke in my station's area tonight.
Superintendent of apartment building tells us that "there's dogs in the apartment" We go in and find 20 Basenji type breeds jammed into crates. Called animal control and spca. Got back to station, locked myself in the bathroom and bawled. Keep these poor doggies in your thoughts and I'll keep everyone posted as to what's happening. |
Aww. Be glad you found them though. If not, they'd still be there. You are their hero, you know? :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Ahhhh!! Poor babies!! I am glad you found them - what are Basenji dogs? I'll have to google that term, not a breed I am familiar with tho since coming here, I have learned several new breeds I had not heard of before. Getting an education fersure!!
I think bawling is good for you. I do it enough that I have to say that and believe it and I do!! If I loose a patient or have just delivered bad news to someone I like, when it's all done and I am alone in my office, I cry like a baby!!! Literally sob sometimes! It is a good way to release our emotions. I sooo hope those dogs get good care and forever homes - and they are OK!! |
People can be so cruel. It's good that you found them. I hope you feel a bit better and do keep us posted on what happen's both to the dogs and the person responisble for this.

Bearsmom, just think what the outcome could have been had you not saved these poor animals, you guys are heroes.. :thumbs up
Hopefully these dogs will be allowed to have a better life from now on,if they are adoptable.. I too have to Google to find out what they look like.. I cry at anything,a little dead bird etc...crying is an outlet of emotions,it's when you stop caring you should be worried  |
My first response to that i usually anger  .
If I heard about a bunch of dogs suddenly passing of something not treatable, that would be sad or just thinking about something happening to one of my furry friends, that would get my crying... But stupid people just make me angry. |
Did I missunderstand??I assumed the dogs were still alive....
Petfriendly...of course I too would be angry and probably want to take a bat to the owner, but my first concern would be the animals, the tears would be because of what seems to be,an unending story of cruelty humans are capable of inflicting on animals  |
As I understood it, no, the dogs didn't die. Hence the anger that someone would have created such a situation... At the end of the day, I'm sure all unloved pets make it to a beter place, be in on this earth or elsewhere.
I have a cat and a dog waiting for me and my current crew at the Bridge. Both of them had a good life here, they were both foundlings that litterally turned up in my parents yard but they were the best ever, so happy to have a home. Thinking about them, that makes me cry. |
Please keep us posted on the dogs if you can....
I would have lost it too....my dog is a basenji mix. |
you are a hero for saving those doggies
i googled them up and found a great picture of one here is the link http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/breedinformation/hound/images/basenji.jpg beauitful breed |
Thx Fire Angel - I googled it too and readabout this lovely breed. To think of so many in an apt in appalling conditions, ughhh!
|
Apparently the city animal control notified the spca and all the dogs have been removed, don't know about charges yet as I'm not back to work until next weekend.
Still feel pretty bad about this. |
Aw, Bearsmom. You saved these pooches-thank you! Sometimes we all need to lock ourselves in the bathroom and bawl.
|
Im glad you got your emotions out. I assume sometimes doing your job you feel to go out of your way to be tough about terrible situations but in the end your human. And humans cry and so they should. I would be a lot more worried if you kept it in.
Good for you saving their lives. Although a fire is terrible in a way its a godsend for these doggys! |
Aww. Be glad you found them though. If not, they'd still be there. You are their hero, you know? :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
I agree try and find the good side of this because you did help these dogs more than you realize right now. :pawprint: |
All we did was remove the 20 + crates from the smoke filled apartment. Funny enough (well, not really funny at all), was the basenji type (supposedly a barkless breed) were all barking their heads off.
I've never wanted to kick someone in the 'nads harder than I do the owners. Good thing they weren't around. |
First of all I hope the doggies will all be ok and will go to loving homes. You did a great thing rescueing them from the fire. I do believe in Karma, maybe the ******* who owned these dogs will get what they deserve. I hope all their possesions were smoke damaged or burned, and they don't have insurance! :p
|
Bearsmom,we once met some fire-fighters while on vacation and I asked them if they would try to save cats from a burning house and the answer was"Hell no!! We would throw them out the window!!"
I realize being a fire-fighter is a heck of a job, often very dangerous, but I am hoping someone would at least try to save my cats  I wonder what happened to the dogs, hopefully they'll not be returned to the owner  |
