Schwinn November 29th, 2004, 09:16 AM I thought some of you might be interested in a reply I got to one of my letters. Here it is--
Jamie,
If you listen to this show, you know that I am the hugest fan of
dogs...it's becuase of me that we have Pet of the Week...do you know that
I see at least one pit bull attack on the wire every morning..this is the
first one that I have chosen to broadcast in a very long time because it
was NEWS..it was on every other service...so although, I appreciate your
feedback....I have to report news..I'm sorry that that will offend
you..but dude, it's my job.
cheers
Judy
thanks for listening.
And my reply--
Hi Judy,
I do appreciate you replying. As I said, my issue has nothing to do with pit-bull attacks being reported. My issue has to do with ONLY pit-bull attacks being reported. And it isn't an issue with you, it's an issue with the media in general. As I said, there has been several attacks over the past few months. One resulted in a man being hospitalized with his hands mangled. Yet this wasn't reported. The issue isn't pit bulls, it's dogs in general. Something needs to be done. But instead, one breed is being villianized (is that even a word?) And it's unfair, because this dog is, by nature, a very gentle and loving breed with humans.
You're right, you do have to report the news. I don't fault you for that. But, there are a large number of us who are tired of watching our dogs and our friends dogs targeted unfairly. And as a result, when we see something that isn't fair, when we see the media perpetuating the myth that it is only pitbulls who attack, we're going to point it out.
So, I'm sorry if THAT offends you. I guess that comes with your job.
Jamie
Luvmypit November 29th, 2004, 09:19 AM I love your reply! Its funny in the sense you make your point but in a light way without imposing. Atleast they wrote you back and that was a very personal response they sent back which is refreshing.
Schwinn November 29th, 2004, 10:25 AM One more follow-up--
Jamie,
We shouldn't put bad pitbulls down. We should put bad pitbull owners down.
I'm glad your dog has a kind, considerate owner.
Lets agree to disagree..I will keep your opinions in mind.
cheers
Judy
And mine--
Actually, I do agree with you about bad pitbull owners. They should be put down, both literally and figurativly.
But I do appreciate you for taking the time to respond. And as for keeping my opinions in mind, that is all I can ask. If you ever do get the chance, talk to your friends at the Humane Society about the dog. I'm sure you'll be as surprised as I was.
Thanks again,
Jamie
(And yes, I do have nothing better to do than play e-mail tag at work...some days I'd rather be sitting at home sticking forks in my eyes...)

Your welcome. :)
Loki November 29th, 2004, 09:08 PM ...but dude, it's my job.
Very nicely handled Schwinn, or should I say "dude"!
Can't convince 'em all.
At the very least, you've altered her image of the typical pitty owner.
That is often a feat in itself.
seeker November 29th, 2004, 10:23 PM I asked her why so little was said about the postal worker being dragged down the street by her head by a rotty . I suggested it was because of a much bigger story of a pitbull attacking a paperboy and then suggested we would hear very little about the correction to the breed in that story . I then suggested it would be nice if attacking dog breeds were verified by someone other than the victim and that maybe before reporting another "pitbull attacks" story check some facts themselves not just relying on a medical report that was filled out at the hospital.
Awaiting a reply I will let you know what is said , if anything
Schwinn November 30th, 2004, 09:23 AM Thanks, dude.
I actually forgot what the e-mail was that I sent. It was orginally about the postal service being cancelled due to the pitbull. (If you want, I'll post it here. I'm just feeling like I may be tooting my own horn a little much. Toot-toot!) I get bothered when the media focuses on pitbull attacks, but when they distort the facts for sensationalism, I REALLY get ticked. That's why I e-mailed her from work (I usually don't do that). I sent a link to the newspaper story that stated it was due to several dogs, not just a pitbull. They had reported only a pitbull was loose.
seeker November 30th, 2004, 08:18 PM I have been coresponding a little with John Oakley from 640 a little . We got into it one friday morning on his show and I have been emailing him once in a while to inform him that there are other dogs that are attacking . He at first rejected everthing I said giving me the same speel as Judy gave you . I have passed on a few stories that his station missed , the sheppard in Sudbury, the rotty in Orillia and most recently the correction of the breed in the Cambridge story . He responded a couple of times but seems to have become a little "bored" with me as of late.
Schwinn November 30th, 2004, 10:37 PM Oakley is a tool. I stopped listening to Mojo because of him. I've heard him on a few occasions, and each time I've found him to be a little moronic on various topics, and really not funny. And I find most things funny!
bluntman December 1st, 2004, 09:06 AM I must agree Schwinn, I find most of the mojo crew tools, I was a huge fan of mojo, then mike stafford got on the anti pit bull train in the summer saying they were ALL monsters, and there was no use for pits at all, If someone called in and agreed with him they were cool, if someone said they owned one and it was a nice freindly dog, they were complete idiots and he would hang up on them after insulting them, I have never listend to mojo since. The scarry part is most listeners probably thought he actually new what he was talking about, and now fell the same way he does, If thats not irrisponsible radio hosting, I don't know what is.
Schwinn December 1st, 2004, 09:38 AM That's unfortunate, because I always considered Stafford to be intelligent. I guess the only saving grace is that the radio station had lost a tonne of listeners by that point. I guess that's someone else who needs to be added to the mail list!
mastifflover December 1st, 2004, 10:07 AM Mojo radio is the station for neadrathals. These guys I'm sure are sitting around in their underwear scratching themselves and burping. Anything that comes out of their mouths is mostly to hear themselves talk. I think they are there biggest fans. So who cares their ratings just keep going down I wouldn't waste my breath on them.

*sniff*Some people have the best lives...Oh, sorry, that was a put down. ;) You just described my University life!
I used to enjoy Mojo when it first started. Then they got rid of a lot of guys and left the pseudo-intellects like Merrick and Krystal. Then they changed thier format and they're really brutal now. I enjoy silly stuff, but a lot of thier stuff was just stupid and "belch and fart" type humour (which my wife tells me is not funny). That got old pretty quick. Now, they have an entire show dedicated to no hockey (and this just in, the NHL is still on strike!) and news show with an interviewer who stumbles on words like "and" and "the", and asks insipid questions.
I think I'll go back to burning CDs.
mastifflover December 1st, 2004, 11:48 AM Good call Schwinn and your wife is right it is not funny.
