Diarrhea - How much pumpkin to feed?

November 15th, 2004, 11:01 AM
My pup hasn't been feeling so well for the past couple of weeks. Been teething lots - I've found about 7 teeth in the past two weeks! And has had some not so nice poops. On and off though. I took her to the vet last week - he took a stool sample - didn't find anything. Gave her some dog imodium equivalent and some Hills Science I/D wet food to feed her. Hasn't really helped.
I've read on a couple of threads that sometimes pumpkin can help make it a bit more solid? How much should I be giving her? How often? She's about 30 lbs now.
And is it normal for so many teeth to be falling out so fast? And she didn't have a fever when the vet took her temperature. Sometimes she looks a little sad and lazy, but most of the time she's her little lovable menace running amuck

I'm looking for a new vet now - this guy told us two different things so I don't really trust him. 1st visit he told us one booster and rabies shot at 6 months. When I just took her in - he told me that she should of had 2 boosters and the rabies shot at 4 months. Anyone know which one is right and / or a good vet in the Port Coquitlam BC area?

Make sure you get the plain canned pumpkin and not the pie filling. You can add a tablespoon to each feeding and see how it goes - adding more or less according to results.

You could also fast her for one day, then start feeding boiled white chicken - several small meals a day - mixed with cooked rice until her stools become normal then gradually start introducing her regular food.

Thanks LR. She did fast the first day after the visit to the vet last week. I'll try feeding her some plain boiled white chicken and rice for dinner tonight and for a couple of days and see how that goes.
