Toronto City Councillor Paula Fletcher will be making a report to the Toronto Board of Health regarding the specifics of vicious dogs and will review the policy experiences of other municipalities. This is our chance for a LARGE municipality to receive the right information and facts!! This information will be noted by the entire province more than likely...

Dear Samantha,

Thank you for your email. Councillor Fletcher is deeply aware of both the severity and complexity of this issue and is deeply committed to improving the health and safety of Toronto residents.

As you point out, this is a multi-facetted issue and many factors must be taken into consideration in order to develop a well-informed and effective solution. As a member of the Toronto Board of Health, Councillor Fletcher has played an instrumental role in recommending the preparation of a comprehensive report to include an investigation of the specifics of the vicious dog issue as well a careful review of the policy experiences of other municipalities. This report will be presented at the November 22 meeting of the Toronto Board of Health. Additionally, this meeting will provide a forum for individual and community deputations. If you wish to be notified by the Toronto Board of Health as to the progress of this issue or the details of the impending meeting, we would urge you to contact the Board of Health at:

Phone: (416) 397-7766
Fax: (416) 39201876

Once again, thank you for taking the time to respond to this important issue. Your comments are greatly appreciated and will be reviewed carefully by Councillor Fletcher in the process of developing policy recommendations regarding the appropriate management of dogs in Toronto.

Cheers,

Olivia Maginley
