Emergency Plumbing renovation stress out the puppy

Hi,

Thank you in advance for any suggestion to help me out.

I have a 4 months old doodle. While we are not at home, he lives in his "basement condo".

Last Sat, my basement sewer pipe in the laundry room busted . It needs a major dig up. It may take a few days to complete the job. I have been doing some reading online that renovation noise can cause puppy stress-out.

I'm planning to take the time off during the renovation to stay with the puppy. I really don't want to send my puppy to boarding house or day-care center unless I have to.

Any suggestions to help my little guy will be greatly appreciated??
Thanks
Celine

Can you take your puppy outside to play or for walk or it's too hard too? Or trying putting on the TV or music on to ground out the noises from renovation.

I can take him out but since it is so cold in Toronto. We can't stay outdoor too long.

He will stay in upstairs during the basement digging and drilling. I read something about thundercoat for calming the stress dog (during the thunder or fireworks). Anyone tried it?

If you can make it a happy occasion for him, it'll go smoother. So lots of play and lots of toys and special training sessions with luscious treats. Dogs are also adept at picking up on your body language, so the more relaxed you are, the better. Smile a lot and laugh for no reason to keep your body language positive. :thumbs up

Hello Celine:

We have a couple of Thundershirts on hand. We bought them from the internet at the time and the first one we bought was a bit small and had to go to a larger size. We bought the ones for cats and have had very good success with them.

We have a kitty cat that does not like thunder so anytime there is a possibility of a thunder storm, we put it on him and it seems to calm him down considerably.

We would highly recommend its use from our experience.

We think they are available now in some of the pet stores, but which ones, we're not certain.

When we had thunder storms my last dog a Standard Poodle would get frighten and he would look at me to see how I was acting. When my dog saw that I was relaxed he would settle down beside me. Our pets do pick up on our body languages a lot.

I see you are in Toronto.
Have you heard of Barks n Rec in Mississauga?
It is an indoor doggie playground that you could drop your pup off for a fun day of play with other dogs. They also run classes and if you're off for those days perhaps enroll your pup in a class or two. They have constant web cam running so you would be able to keep an eye your pup.
