We are in the midst of a mystery regarding some foreign matter found on the carpet in our living room. Said incident has occurred twice over the last few weeks. We have two dogs that share our lives with us, Sadie a female six yr old purebred German Shepard, and Zoey a female two yr old German Shepard / Timber wolf cross.
My wife noticed a blob of what seemed to be a gelatinous substance on the carpet. She said it had no distinguishable odour and was a kind of pinkish translucent jelly kind of thing. It did not appear to be fecal in nature. I didn't know what to make of that until a few days ago i came across the same thing. Again it was placenta like, similar to raw egg white with pinkish red streaks throughout. This time it had a very powerful fish odor to it. It was definately organic and I was wondering if it might be some vaginal secretion of some sort. Neither dog had any scent lingering to them and both were alert and attentive, with nothing out of the ordinary, ready to play and full of energy. We continued to monitor them, checking their stool etc. whenever possible. Then this morning I could see Zoey voiding in the back yard and her scat appeared to be somewhat loose or runny so I went down to investigate. There was some of this jelly material along with the feces. She then proceeded to scoot her butt along the grass. Both dogs were de-wormed about six weeks ago and Zoey was spayed March 21st of this year.
She is a fabulous dog and much loved. We of course will spend whatever it takes to see her through and in good health. However with Christmas and the holidays knocking at the door if I can avoid an expensive bill at the vets I would be very grateful. She seems perfectly normal. Could this be the result of impacted anal glands or whatever they call them? Any help or information would be truly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Kindest Regards,
Randolph

Some mucousy, slimey, stool will happen once in a while. What I see once in a while doesn't sound like what you describe though. I see a normal stool covered in clearish slime. It happens infrequently enough I don't worry. I would worry if my dog all of a sudden started voiding in my house.

It does not sound like impacted anal glands. If they were impacted you would not see the mucous stuff, it's stuck in the gland. I think you'd see scoot marks on the floor too. However I wonder if your dog gets impacted then something happens to self clear the glands? I'm guessing, don't know if that can happen.

NO chance it is a placenta? Spontaneous abortion? False pregnancy can sometimes result in a similar occurrance.

The very first thing to do is call and ask your Vet if this could be the result of worming. If not then I'm afraid your best bet for discovering the truth is to take the stuff to your VEt for analysis and you need to separate and control the dogs so you know which one is doing it.

Unfortunately I'm very familiar with mucousy slimy poop :yuck: as I have a dog with a delicate tummy. Bland diet of rice and steamed chicken seems to sort this ailment. As well as reducing amount fed until normal poops start. I fed vet recommended Prescription G/I Restore food and this made my dog so much worse! Good luck with your girl, hopefully it's just a case of upset tummy.
