Hi there,
I'm new to this site but found it very informative.
I'm currently doing research on buying a puppy for my 7yr old daughter and I.
The difficulty I have is that my daughter has been tested for allergies and came up mildly positive to some dogs. which breed is unknown as the allergist couldn't say. My ex wife got a dog and its a poddle mix of which my daughter seems to have no reaction too.
We've also spent time with friends and family members who have dogs of various breeds/mix's and I haven't detected my daughter reacting negatively to any of them.
so I'm beginning to wonder how accurate the allergist test was and the severity of her allergy by this point.
We live in Ottawa, Ontario and are trying to find either rescue or breeders in the area that we can visit and have a trail period with various breeds until we find the right breed of dog to get as I don't want to be in a position of having to return it.
I've searched the internet and found a few places but hoped a member here could point me in the right direction to speed up my search.
Ideally, we need a medium or small dog, with a great disposition (gentle).
I've own dogs of various breeds and grew up with a dog and cat in the house all my life so I'm ok, it's just my daughter is the concern.
I have prep'd the house for containing any allergens but want to ensure I get the right fit of breed due to allergies.
Hoping to get lucky but definitely need to perform numerous trials to determine the right dog for us.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
