Shedding tools

Hi cat experts,

Sammy is shedding a bit more than usual lately and I am just using a cheap brush to get the fur. There must be a better tool for Sammy though.
Do you know the best tool?

What sort of coat does Sammy have? Short/medium/long, coarse or fine hair? I've used a Furminator on my cats in the past (all short-hair), but they didn't really like it much. Sure got a lot of hair out though! I also have a fine-toothed flea comb that they seem to prefer. These days I don't brush them at all as their shedding is minimal on a raw food diet. An occasional rub-down with a damp cloth is all that's needed to get any loose surface hairs, and then they feel all frisky afterwards.

Sammy has a medium length coat is that too long for the furminator?

My pups have long hair and although the pet store sold me a Furminator, it was terrible for their coats. I returned it and my breeder said not to use it at all. A good metal long tooth comb should help significantly.

If your cats object to metal/hard bristles, you might want to try one of those rubber zoom grooms(the one for cats, with more bristles). It takes a few strokes to get the static going, but then it starts to really collect the fur.
My cat who backs away from the metal brush, comes running for the rubber one.
