straightjacket-like devices for calming down a pet

Hi everyone,

Not sure if i mentioned this around here before (and I know we have touched on this a few times ) but there seems to be very good research (notably by Dr. Temple Grandin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_Grandin)) that physical pressure can calm a pet down.

Thundershirts (http://www.thundershirt.com/) are known to calm dogs down in storms and other periods of high anxiety....and I'd bet Dr. Grandin's research played a part in its development.

Back to me though for a sec :) My cat twiggy has hormonal issues due to what we believe is a botched spay.

Anyway she regularly goes through periods of extreme hyperactivity - which isn't a big deal during the day.... But at night when we are trying to sleep...it's the wrong time.

Just wanted to share that putting a tightish sweater on her calms her down nearly immediately and it works nearly every single time. So....if any guests or members are having similar issues, it might well be worth it to slap a tight sweater on your pet to see if it may help.

I'd be way curious to know if many members are already doing this.

Very cool that that works for Twiggy!! Did you buy a sweater her size or modify one you had?

We were wishing we had a thundershirt for Cass last night--storms rolled through and she had to announce each and every lightning bolt...

Nope we just used a small sweater.
I'd suggest that in a pinch, even modifying a human Tshirt to snugly fit a pet might be worth a try.

I think it's supposed to storm again tonight. Must go check my closet for something that might wrap Cass snugly...
