Been to vet twice..advice please!

Sorry in advance if I've posted this in the wrong forum...very new to this.

Ok where to start....my dog had a sudden onset of diarrhea and vomiting (only for two days) about three weeks ago...after trying a few home remedies from the vet over the phone, I decided to take him in. NOTE: I have not seen blood in his diarrhea recently.

The first visit to the vet: Did a stool test (no parasites) and put him on an antibiotic anyways. No change. Dog continues to eat, but everything is going through him so quickly.

Second visit: Vet thought it might be gastro and put him on a vet food for hypoallergic dogs and tylan (medication) This seems to have made him worse over the course of the past week.

He is now going into the vet for bloodwork tomorrow morning, but i'm just wondering if anyone has gone through something similar? Tyce hasn't eaten anything he shouldn't have and has never had any stomach issues like this before. I'm becoming increasingly worried as I can clearly see this is not my dog and the two vet visits do not seem to be helping. Thank you very much for any advice or help you can offer.

I would bring your dog to hospital if the vet can't find out what wrong with him. You may have have him stay over night to keep him hydrated if he keep having diarrhea . I would made sure he is drinking enough water.

When our Evan was developing IBD he had similar symptoms, MJ27. If your vet is still stymied after the next tests, or if your dog's stool gets tarry-looking (black and pasty), I'd see about getting a referral to a veterinary teaching college clinic. They see a lot of different things and have a lot of diagnostic tools that a general practice vet doesn't.

Just a note: a black, tarry stool is worth an emergency visit to a vet--it indicates bleeding along the intestinal tract. So if your dog develops this, get him in ASAP.

Let u know if anything shows up in the bloodwork. This could be anything from pnacreatitis, to tick diease, to IBD.
