Emoticons

Hey Marko!
Is there anyway we can have funner and more expressive emoticons? I love using them and I think I have over used these ones we have... and some people have taken full advantage of :rolleyes: !! LOL!!

Ya....I'm with Sammiec...there are times that those 11 just don't fit what I am trying to emote....AND a wider range will help to keep others from misreading your meaning! :D (And yes....my smile actually looks that silly!!!)

LOL @ myself!! :D I've been away for a while and just noticed the new emoticons. Reading through other posts, I was wondering why people had started replacing whole words with emoticons (was this yet another "internet shorthand" that I was not privvy to? :p ). Then I used the word "s-a-d" in my own post, and noticed afterwards that it was replaced automatically by the emoticon. Will the system do this for all of the emoticons now? By the way, I particularly like the "s-i-c-k" one! Very cute! ;)

Here's a few places to get emoticons. Just click on the one you want and the url will come up. Copy and paste into your message. But I do think that only the 's can work on this board? Not sure, you'll have to play with them on your preview's.

Does anyone else find it a little distracting when the emoticons automatically replace words? For example, I was just reading a very serious post where the word "p-a-r-t-y" was used in a legal document, but instead the word was replaced with party. Also, they replace parts of words. Like someone was adressing a person named Sadie but forgot to capitalize the "S", and it came out looking like sadie.

yes, I also don't like that emoticons substitute the words without my will, maybe you (administrator) could add some extra conditions on what these emoticons will start replacing the words? like only words in "" or in <> would be replaced...
There is no much opportunity to change words in text so that emoticons wouldn't replace them, so it's better to make this "switch" for emoticons.

I don't think you guys should be sooooo picky,we wanted more emoticons and Marko gave them to us :thumbs up Instead,change your wording if you don't want it replaced and you can always edit.
And please do not get excited....I am just scolding you a bit for being picky :angel:

it would be more natural if you change words to make emoticons, not to change normal spelling to avoid emoticons...
maybe I'm too conservative, it's just the only way i saw it before on other sites...

No! Not at all, but because of BSL, you were using the word "sad" a lot, you know, "fighting a :sad: stereotype" was part of your signature... now it's "fighting a sad stereotype" which is much better!!! I realize now that using the :sad: smiley wasn't really your intention!
