My Shy Collie

October 11th, 2004, 08:58 PM
First Timer Here Looking For Info From Collie People. I Got My 3 Month Old Guy About 1 Month Ago, He Has Come Around A Little But He Is Still Incredibly Timid Around Just About Everthing.
Does This Sound Familiar To Anyone?

Is this a Rough Collie? He should not be shy around people, and shyness is considered a fault in collies. Either the person who bred him did not socialize him at all, or he has a temperament problem.

Where did you get him? Was he acting this way in the place you got him?

Yes He Is A Rough. I Do Keep Reading That His Behavior Is A Breed Fault. The Vet However States All Collies As All People Are Different. Supposedly He Was Socialized As Much As His Multiple Littermates Of Which Their New Owners Seem To Be Quite Happy With. While At The Breeders, He Seemed Content, Outgoing And Actually Approached Me First. Although He Was Being Nipped Quite Frequently By One Of His Remaining Littermates.

he's probably lonley and scared. he is in a new place and his littermates are gone. i would enrol him into puppy classes as soon as he is up to date on all of his shots, let him have fun. lots of reassurement treats and good dogs that will help the situation out lots.

welcome to puppy hood :D

He is definitely scared, but the lonely part I'm not so sure about. He doesn't get enough time alone to be lonely. Very active home. His shots will finish in about six weeks but I'm worried that he will only be that much worse by then, even with some training help. You can teach them how to sit, stay, down & such but can you teach them how to be outgoing and affectionate?
