Dogs and chocolate.

My husband and I were just discussing dogs and chocolate. We know it can kill them but we don't know why. Is it because it contains caffine, or is it a different ingredient?

Its because chocolate contains methylxanthine alkaloids in the form of theobromine and caffeine. They cause constriction of arteries, and an increased heart rate. It can lead to throwing up, diarrhea, and increased peeing. Worse symptoms are stiffness and seizures.

Thanks for the info. It is something I have always wondered about.
