LA MESA, Calif. -- A family pet showed off his heroics as he helped rescue his owners from a house fire in the East County, 10News reported.
Flames broke out in a La Mesa home just after midnight Friday.
Firefighters say that the pet woke up the husband and wife and everyone was able to get out safely.
"The fire was well involved in the living room area. Apparently, the one of the pets woke up the two residents and assisted in getting them out," Heartland Fire Dept. Lt. Mike Hayworth said.
The house suffered major damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
