14 year old cat, weight loss

September 25th, 2011, 10:40 PM
last time i brought simba for a check up i know he had some type of kidney problem, and was told to weigh him occasionally to make sure he hasn't lost any significant weight. he's been fine for a while, but i came home after the weekend (visiting the bf) and he looked really tiny. at the doctors he weighed a little over 7lbs and now he weighs about 6. this past week he's thrown up, just clear liquid. his diet hasn't seemed to change and from what i can tell he is peeing and pooping fine.
i do plan on making an appointment with the vet, but was hoping to hear some thoughts on what you think may be wrong.

Sounds like it's time for a trip to the vet & to get a clearer picture of what the "kidney problem" is & a treatment course for it. A full panel blood & urine test would be necessary for an accurate diagnosis.

What food is Simba eating? If he's on dry food, now would be the time to switch him to a canned only or raw food diet, especially given the kidney problem. All cats with any type of kidney issue need plently of fluids in their diet to give the kidneys help to flush out toxins.

:goodvibes: & let us know what the vet says

he's on dry and wet right now, though he seems to prefer wet and i make sure he has plenty. right after his appointment last year i started making him homemade food, and probably should pick that up again.
will get back to you once he's back from the vets:cat:

I think chopping up a little parsley with his wet food will help.
