Shaykeija July 18th, 2011, 10:19 AM Annie is failing. She usually wakes me up every morning with her barking. For the last two days nothing. She refused food this morning and her breathing is off. She is huffing and sleeping a lot. I know her little heart is quitting on her. There is nothing we can do for her but try to make her comfortable. Annie had had a rough life and and the last 2 and a half years, she has known love, soft beds and plenty of food. The vet said she was at least 15 years old so I think it must be her time. I will have to make the call in the next day or so. My heart is broken. :(I promised her a forever home, so her ashes will stay with me and be placed with me when I die.
pbpatti July 18th, 2011, 10:23 AM Aw Shay, I am so sorry that Annie is ailing. You gave her your heart and home and I am sure that she is grateful for the soft beds and loves. :grouphug::angel2: patti
hazelrunpack July 18th, 2011, 11:59 AM I'm so sorry that Annie isn't doing better, Shay. She's such a little trooper! :grouphug:
Etown_Chick July 18th, 2011, 06:50 PM She's a lucky girl to have spent her golden years with you.
mikischo July 19th, 2011, 11:19 AM I'm so sorry that Annie isn't doing well. You have given her a wonderful life. I know how difficult it is to let go. We wish we could have them forever.
I know you will make the best decision when the time comes.:grouphug:
:goodvibes: that she has a turn around so you can have her with you for a little longer.
Shaykeija July 19th, 2011, 01:16 PM I have not stopped crying since yesterday. Annie goes in tonight at 5:15. Best scenario, I come home with her. Worst scenario...I come home to not 4 pups but 3...:(
I fed her a special breakfast and loaded her up with the special treats. She is sleeping right now and I am just watching over her. She is doing a lot of mouth breathing and when I checked her little heart last night her heart was racing. Her lungs did not sound so good, so I m sure she is in congestive heart failure and her tiny lungs are filling up with fluid.
I am a mess.....
Tee14 July 19th, 2011, 01:27 PM Shay I am so sorry. Cry all you need to, your in a hard spot right now.
 :grouphug:
Shaykeija July 19th, 2011, 04:52 PM Annie gets to stay a little longer. She has an infection so she is on meds for a week. The vet say it is the heat playing havoc with her breathing...I am so damn glad.
hazelrunpack July 19th, 2011, 04:57 PM Oh, Shay, that's such a relief! :goodvibes: I hope the meds do their magic and you and Annie have a lot more time together!
Tee14 July 19th, 2011, 05:51 PM I am so happy for you. :goodvibes:
mikischo July 19th, 2011, 05:59 PM That is absolutely wonderful news. I'm so happy for you and Annie.:thumbs up
:goodvibes: :goodvibes: for a speedy recovery and that you still have lots more good times together.

Shaykeija July 19th, 2011, 08:31 PM 75121
this is Annie
hazelrunpack July 19th, 2011, 08:48 PM She's so pretty, Shay. Are the meds helping, yet? :fingerscr :goodvibes:
Shaykeija July 19th, 2011, 08:55 PM She is sleeping under red neck air conditioning. 20 pound block of ice and a fan, Cooling her down......BUT we now have another problem. Tyra fell down the stairs as we were leaving. And she will not walk. I checked her over and no broken bones, she will stand but not walk. She does not seem to be in pain, I touched her all over and no sound out of her. I just think she is all bruised up. She goes in tomorrow morning for a check by Dr Dan. I did a spine check to see if there were any sore spots, turned her on her back and checked all her joints. Even her toes. No pain screech. Manupilated her neck and jaws, they are working fine, she ate dinner and a treat but would not walk to get them. Sigh
hazelrunpack July 19th, 2011, 09:01 PM Oh, no :( With luck it's just some bad bruising and both of them will be feeling better by the morning :fingerscr
marko July 20th, 2011, 08:36 AM Hopefully just bruising :fingerscr
and good news for Annie - :goodvibes:
hazelrunpack July 20th, 2011, 08:37 AM How are your girls feeling this morning, Shay? :goodvibes:
Dog Dancer July 20th, 2011, 10:21 AM My goodness, what a rollercoaster for you Shay. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Glad to hear that Annie has more time. You are such a good and loving mommy to them all. I hope Tyra is feeling better soon.
Shaykeija July 20th, 2011, 05:42 PM Annie is feeling better and Tyra had a date with Dr Dan. She is sore, just banged up a bit. Dr said Tyra is built like a tank, any other dog would have been seriously hurt. SHE WENT DOWN 20 STAIRS. So she is on pain meds and mom wants a tequila IV drip.
hazelrunpack July 20th, 2011, 06:15 PM Holy catz! 20 steps!!! That was quite a spill! Glad she's just bruised. Yay for Annie responding to the meds, too! :grouphug:
If it's iced, I'll join you in that tequila IV drip!!!
Longblades July 20th, 2011, 08:53 PM My gosh. Tell those pups from me to quit doing these scary things. So glad to read in one fell swoop that all seems on the mend right now.
Dee-O-Gee July 20th, 2011, 09:02 PM Good to hear Annie is feeling better and Tyra is on the mend. :thumbs up
How's the IV Shay? Need another drip and a few friends to join in? :D
CsqU4r3d July 21st, 2011, 10:24 AM Glad to hear everyone is on the mend...that's enough drama for a while I am sure. Do you take that tequila drip with lime and salt?
Shaykeija July 21st, 2011, 10:36 PM Naw I rubbed the salt in and snorted the lemon..lol
Anyway, Tyra went to the vet today. I was worried because she had not peed or pooped since Tuesday. She was hydrated but Dr Dan gave her a IV water bubble. She looked like the hunch backs puppy..lol. On a pain scale, yesterday she was a 10, today an 8. So it will be a slow mend. And for pooping and peeing, he said she was too sore to squat but heard her tummy rumbling and said things were moving.
So, tonight I bring her downstairs to sleep, so much cooler..put a soft silk house coat down for her so she has something soft and cool to lay on. She looks and me and lets the river yellow flow over the beautiful banks of the said house coat..Oh well pee happens..lol. I was just glad she peed. So I looked her in her little face and said... You can hold your pee for 2 days and you still use a pee pad? I got scammed by a Shih Tzu.. :laughing:I am just glad she feels better, right now she can pee and poop wherever. No problem because she is a hurting pup.
hazelrunpack July 21st, 2011, 10:53 PM Glad things are moving, anyway. And that she peed! :highfive: Nothing soothes a worried mom's heart better than a good pee and poop. I just hope she picks a more appropriate place to poop for ya... :p
Hope her pain level comes down quickly! :goodvibes:
joeysmama July 27th, 2011, 09:34 AM Good news about Tyra...and I'm especially relieved about sweet Annie! I'm so happy that girl has finally found the love and care she deserves !! :lovestruck:
Shaykeija July 27th, 2011, 03:06 PM Well Tyra is still not walking. She stands and walks a few steps and that is it. Took her for a check today and while she is not paralyzed she had defined weakness in her hind legs. She still is in a little pain but that will pass. We put her on prednisone today for a week. We will evaluate her again next week and decide her treatment from there. We talked surgery, but at her age, she would not be a good candidate. So, aqua therapy, laser and acupuncture. If that fails, her dignity is still intact so she will just be my little special needs girl. She has only peed 4 times in the last week and pooped 3 times. The vet was not concerned because she has pain. We cannot use pain killers because that will just mask it and we need her to heal. As long as she is not attempting to move she is resting and healing her spinal cord. I feel like a schit because I was not watching over her as I was so concentrated on Annie. Annie, is out little rubber band dog. She bounced right back and is back to waking me up with her growlie bark, joined in by Miss Tyra.
hazelrunpack July 27th, 2011, 03:45 PM Glad Annie is doing so well, and I hope the therapies get Tyra back on her feet! When it hurts to move, it's hard to keep muscle toned. I've seen some real miracle stories involving aqua therapy, though. :goodvibes: Hope she heals quickly!
