Nice shot, Sylvie!!! Very handsome dude, too! :lovestruck:

Are you seeing a lot of them this year?

July 17th, 2011, 03:25 PM
Maybe four or five but they come every day all day.

Do you make your own food for the hummingbirds??

July 17th, 2011, 03:35 PM
Yep. I boil up about 8 cups every day.

July 17th, 2011, 03:40 PM
could you give me the recipe

July 17th, 2011, 04:05 PM
Oh, whoops, :o sure. LOL

It's really easy. Dissolve 1 part granulated white sugar into 4 parts water. You'll have to heat it to get it all dissolved. If you think you'll be using what you make over more than a day, bring the solution to a rolling boil and then simmer it for 5 minutes. If you only make enough for the day, you don't need to boil it for the extra 5 minutes.

Cool and store the solution in the fridge.

Thanks Hazel. I will need more food next week, so will make some up.

He was back tonight, sitting on the same branch of the tree. The little devil uses that area as his private bathroom. It is so neat to see him prean himself. I have never seen them do anything else but eat or fly.

The first time I saw a hummer preening, I thought, "Oh, look! Preening just like he thinks he's a real bird." :o D'oh, hazel, no kidding!

I know what you mean, I had almost the same thoughts. I was actually shocked to see them sitting in a tree. But, many people don't believe me

We started with one hummer, and soon there were 2-3 more trying to feed. The first one is such a bully he chases the others away, and once knocked one on the ground and appeared to be attacking him. We now have two feeders, he's still a bully, but at least the others have a chance to feed now.
