My 7 month Border Collie was playing in a stream 4 weeks ago. He suddenly got out and curled up into a ball. I took him to his Vet and she thought he had taken in some water. He had Antibiotics for a week and was given the all clear. 48 hours later he went downhill.. very breathless. His blood tests are normal.. he quickly gets out of breath but recovers very quickly. He is being referred to a specialist. Very worried anyone had similar experience ?

I haven't had it or seen it but there is something called Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) in Labrador Retrievers. If you google maybe you can see if the symptoms sound familiar and perhaps can get an idea of how to handle it.

EIC is a gene mutation that can and is tested for before breeding Labradors, if the breeder is up to date.

Just googled, looks like there is something similar in BC.

Dogs can also get heat exhaustion which sounds to be a bit more serious as they can die and it takes, from what I've read, much, much longer to get over than EIC.

ETA: What you describe does not sound like other episodes of EIC I've read about. Here is a disturbing video in 4 parts:

Hello there.. Thanks for your reply. There is a condition called Border Collie Collapse. Wilbur is thriving, gaining weight and is in great condition. So it has been ruled out. Before he became " Ill" we were walking 6 miles a day. It's a mystery. Just want my healthy boy back
