I have a dog that's been fully trained for 3 years. We keep her in the hallway upstairs with a baby gate up when we are not home. One day she found out how to get over the gate. She peed and pooped on the living room rug. We then put up another gate. Now she continues to pee and poop in the house whenever we go out. She will go in the hallway now which she never did before. The other change is that my grandson moved in with us all around the same time. What's happening here?

First, go to the vet and get your dog checked out. This will eliminate (pun intended) any medical causes for inconenance.
Next, how long ago did your grandson move in? How old is your grandson? How much attention is he getting compared to your dog? How much attention is your dog getting now compared to before your grandson moved in?
It's possible that your dog's behaviour is a response to having the pecking order at home mixed up. You all may be human, but you all are your dog's pack. Add a new member to the pack, even on a temporary basis, and there will be jockying for position all over again.
Have there been any other changes in your life? New dog food, new furniture, carpets, anything at all cause reactive behaviour, depending on the dog.
