Crate Anxiety

September 26th, 2004, 06:02 PM
We have 2 boxers crated in 2 crates beside each other. Just recently one of our boxers escaped from his crate and got locked behind closed doors. We are unsure of how long, however, he was frantic is scratching at the drywall and door to get out. It seems that from that day onwards he has been trying to escape from his crate. We video taped on day and he was carrying on with panting and barking and trying to escape from his crate for about an hour and a half. He has escaped again on another occasion since then (we did however make sure all doors were closed that he wouldn't get trapped anywhere). Our vet has told us to try DAP (like a plug in air freshener) which is suppose to calm anxiety. However we have used it for 2 days now and no change in behaviour. The other boxer is calm in his crate. This behaviour has started a couple of months ago. He also doesn't have any hesitation going into his crate. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

2 days ago we left both dogs out of there crates to see what would happen. The same behaviour occurred as before when we had tried to leave them out of the crates. Magazines, tapes and such ended up being chewed.
