travelling - need to give meds ?

Have an indoor only cat, doesnt come in contact with other animals. We are moving from B.C. to Oakland area - wondering if we need to give heartworm and intestinal parasite meds as preventative medication. Cat will also not come in contact with other animals once settled in new location.

I would assume their shots would have to be up to date. as far as heartworm or any other type of parasite meds I havent heard of it, flew my kitty across country and never gave any of those, she was just fine.
