What kind of bird?

I was wandering what this bird is,looks like maybe a female white-capped Sparrow,we have a few of them..?

Not positive Chico but maybe she/he is a Pine Siskin? patti

I'm putting my money on a female red-winged blackbird. I was just watching ours on the feeders. :o

Siskins have a bit of yellow on the wings,this one does not.
Maybe he/she is just some kind of Sparrow,bigger than a regular Sparrow though,thank's!

Hazel I think you are right,just checked my Bird-Book,gosh,I should have known that:shrug:

The fems are sneakier and less flamboyant than the males and are often mistaken for something else mostly, imo, because people see less of them. :shrug:

Well I'll be darned, thank you Hazel, I have to say that I have never seen a fem red winged black bird before. Of course if I did I would have mistaken it for another bird. I love going out of town and seeing the male red winged black birds they are really so pretty, the name always catches me too. I think it sounds almost like an oxymoron. patti

When I first started noticing the world around me(after the kids were all gone:thumbs up)I got really interested in birds and feeding them ad it's something I now really love.
I don't know half of what Hazel does,but I am working on it.
A good birdbook is very helpful.

Lol. I've seen those before and never realized what they were. I have no redwinged blackbirds around my house so they don't come to my feeders and I've only seen them out in fields, so never thought to relate them to the black birds.

Patti if you think the name is an oxymoron, just wait until you see a few red-winged blackbirds who completely lack the red at all and only have the yellow patch!

I have both here and at first I thought the ones with a yellow patch were females:shrug:but I know better now.
