Thanks Rainbow....From what I read in the paper this morning, BC laws regarding animal cruelty will be changed.....I'm optimistic that something good is going to come out of this travesty.

Sometimes it takes a horrific event like this to happen to open the eyes of the public and the law makers.
At the very least, their lives may not have been in vain but infact for the betterment for future sled dogs.
Too bad it takes something like this to make people wake up. I wonder if this did not make the media..if there would have ever been an inquiry and new regulations?

I have no doubt that if it wasn't for all the media attention that nothing would have changed.

Rainbow..remember the husky thing I was dealing with in Quebec? Well that got media attention...and nothing happened. No conviction..nothing.
I think the fact that these dogs were actively used during the Os, for profit and entertainment..this is what I think made a huge impact and difference.
I am just so glad that these dogs have made a mark.

Yes, I remember the husky situation you dealt with :( but I wouldn't have heard a thing if it wasn't for coming here and reading what you posted. BC was lucky that the slaughter at Whistler got world-wide attention otherwise nothing would have changed here with our laws.
What we all need is for the federal governemnt to step up and get involved and change the animal cruelty act as well. :fingerscr

So every time someone who is campaigning mes around or accosts you at a grocery store ask them how their party stands on animal cruelty, how they are planning on changing the laws regarding puppy mills, bybs, etc. I think if it became something that the voters would not allow them to ignore then something may be done. May be......

Great suggestion .....all the parties will be phoning continuously and it's a great way to get your concerns out there.
I also heard on the news last night that you can email or phone in your questions for the party leaders for their upcoming debate. I'll go look for the info and open a new thread in the General Forum so more people will see it.
