I have a 8 month British bulldog who just started her first heat a week ago. She now is having accidents (pee) in the house. In her bed, carpet etc. Outside she'll go a few times in just 5 minutes. Is it common to get an uti while in heat? Or is this a separate issue? She is eating fine and is not sick. We will be getting her spayed as soon she gets through this. Anything will help as we can't get her into the vet for a week. Thanks:)

I am sorry I can't answer about the peeing problem. But I did want to ask u to not leave her unattended outside as males can be very determined to get to her. Please also be careful she doesn't escape outside.
Sometimes animals in heat can be very determined and tricky.
Thank you for planning on getting her fixed next week too!! :thumbs up
I'm sure some of the dog experts will be here to answer your question in a few hours too. *S*

She is an inside dog, and I take her out for bathroom trips. I never leave her outside:)

We had a couple of rescues go into heat just before their spays, too, and noticed an increase in accidents. That being said though, it was nowhere near as frequent as what you're describing and the dogs in question weren't fully house-trained, either...so I'm wondering if your dog might have a UTI, too. If you can get a urine sample from her, your vet may be willing to do the UA without seeing your dog, so if this is just associated with her heat cycle, then you're only out the cost of the test. If the test shows evidence of UTI, though, they'll likely require a vet visit before prescribing antibiotics.
And welcome to the board! :D
