So Bayley is a When Pigs Fly Dog!!!

January 4th, 2011, 11:14 PM
I always knew she is a smart dog, but always seems like she'd rather be doing her own thing rather than paying attention to me, unless we're playing and it's something she likes doing.

So I ordered When Pigs Fly, Training Success with Impossible Dogs. Eureka!! Lots of great info in this one, how to get your dog to really work with you and all sorts of great advice. I wasn't sure if it would really describe Bayley or it was just me. The author, Jane Killion, has Bull Terriers, and has done amazing things with them. She does alot with free shaping behaviours, so we're a bit ahead of the game as we've done the box game and she's really good at it.

I'm looking forward to trying the exercises in the book. My biggest goal with Bayley is to get her off-leash heeling. She covers teaching that so that's my major goal. I would be soooo excited if we can accomplish that. I know she can do it. Now I have the info to teach it to her :D

Thanks for the review, pattymac. I wasn't sure if I should order that book (I'm not familiar with Jane Killion) but, I'll certainly be picking up a copy in the near future.

By any chance, did you happen to capture Bailey and her box on video :D? That would be great to see.

Here are a few videos demonstrating shaping behaviors using a box.

I should do that, need a new box first. The original one got a bit wrecked! Hmm now I just need to find my video camera's charger!

It's a pretty cool book, lots of great ideas. She also describes lots of different types of dog personalities. I wasn't sure Bayley would fit into the 'stubborn' dog type but she does.

thanks LP.

Is there any reason for this game or is it just to stimulate him and make the clicker have value?
